4 out of 5 stars Great, except for glossy sides   July 30, 2010
Nick
I've had this mouse for about a week now and it is pretty great. Super accurate, good response time, and nice drivers. For people complaining about the lights, you can easily turn them off when you download the drivers from razer's website.

My main complaint about this mouse, however, is the glossy sides. The top is coated with a texture spray which feels amazing, although it will probably wear off after a year or so of constant use. The sides are icky feeling glossy plastic, which causes my thumb, ring, and pinky finger to build up sweat, making the mouse slippery and uncomfortable to hold. My last mouse gave me no such problems, so I know this is not due to having abnormally sweaty hands.

However, I do like the mouse, so rather than return it I am looking for a solution to this. I have read that steelseries makes mouse grips which I can put on the side of the mouse, although I can't seem to find them for sale anywhere. I even read about someone putting skateboard grip on the side, which I can imagine would make the mouse even more uncomfortable.

If I could do it all over, I think I might have bought the logitech mx518. not only is it cheaper, but it also has great ergonomics and has rubber sides which feel great. the deathadder certainly looks a lot cooler though and has excellent software (I do not know about the mx518's software). 1800 dpi is about as much as I need. 3500 dpi is insane unless you like ridiculously fast movement.

1 out of 5 stars Mac Users Beware   July 29, 2010

Got the Razor Deathadder 3500 several days ago for my Mac. It fits my larger hand nicely, and it feels fairly comfortable under the hand, unlike the mouse's namesake. The buttons are responsive, though I noticed the left mouse button has a bit too much give; that is to say it clicks down a bit too easily. I plugged the mouse in and immediately without installing the drivers, it lit right up. I noticed a few hiccups in the cursor and inspected the bottom; there was plastic covering it, easy solution. Here's where the fun starts.

I installed the driver and upped it to the max 3500 setting. I noticed a slight improvement in performance. I started working in Photoshop and the cursor occasionally jumped like a deranged gazelle, leaping from side to side. I emailed Razor asking them about this. I checked the website for a firmware update, but there was none available for Mac OS X. Their reply stated the solution:

"Thank you for your reply. The firmware update needs to be performed on a system running Windows. Be sure to have the most current drivers installed on that system prior to performing the update. Once the firmware is successfully updated, and you plug your Deathadder 3500 back into your Mac the changes will reflect on your Mac machine."

I do not own a Windows machine, but I have to locate one, plug my nifty little mouse in, download the updated installers, install them and then bring that back home to plug into my mac. Doesn't seem like the most convenient of solutions.

Razor advertises Mac OS compatibility/support. Perhaps there is a typo in their advertisement? Should it also be "Low Precision 3.5G"?. I plan on returning it promptly.

5 out of 5 stars LOVE...true LOVE!!!!   July 28, 2010

It is just an amazing mouse, ive had it for half a year now. It is amazing, barely ever have to move my mouse due to the great dpi. Fits like a glove under my hand! It is definitely well worth it..I just bought one for my brother, because i took mine back with me to Afghanistan. I also bought the "2x Razer Vespula RZ02-00320100-R3U1 Dual-Sided Gaming Mouse Mat (Dark Grey)"...pricey items, but well worth the money if you are a gamer of any level or capacity; because I don't think you'll buy another one ever!...unless your buddy steals it because he envies you :D

4 out of 5 stars Great mouse but...   July 27, 2010

Pros:

- Comfortable, even for small hands. Going from a G9x to this, my hand has stopped feeling cramped after prolonged use. (main reason for buying)
- Thumb buttons are well placed
- Oversized main buttons feel nice, and have a wide area for clicking.
- Scroll wheel is perfect. Both the feel and the default distance for scrolling. Doesn't make an annoying audible sound when used.
- Scroll wheel lights up and the logo on the body of the mouse pulses and can be individually turned on or off.
- Up to 5 DPI settings can be saved and stored (Caveat - to change your profile, the button is located on the bottom of the mouse, so if you plan on using the "On the fly" adjustable DPI a lot and in a middle of a game, might want to look into another mouse)
- Long and braided cord.

Cons:

- Side plastic is a gunk magnet. Never had any problems with my previous two Logitech mouses. Also makes me readjust my grip after sweating since I start losing some grip. (-0.5)
- Thumb buttons, while well placed, have a cheap plastic feel. Also makes an annoying clicking sound. (-0.5)
- Scroll wheel does not tilt (was aware of this and is not a factor for the star reduction)
- Weight not adjustable (once again, aware of this and is not a factor for the star reduction)

Overview:

Though the mouse is very comfortable, the use of plastic on the sides was a bad decision on Razer's part. I personally am not fond of the gunk build up and the adjustments I have to make from sweating because of the plastic sides. I have a Logitech G500 ordered and on the way and I can see it replacing the Razer. However, I am not returning this mouse because it's still a good, comfortable mouse and will either use it with my laptop, a future second pc, or may give it to my niece or nephew. If you don't like dealing with the build up or will use the DPI a lot then this mouse is probably not for you. Otherwise, this is a solid mouse.

3 out of 5 stars not recommended   July 26, 2010

My Background:
I do some gaming, but mostly i work on my computer with Graphic programs like photoshop all day and I have a slight case of carpal tunnel. Windows 7 64.

Pros:
Smooth gliding on surfaces. nice texture on top. looks cool. nice scrolling. my hand sets nicely on top of it.

Cons:
First, The top of the mouse has this great matte texture, but the sides are made with glossy slippery material that makes it hard to grip. I have found that i had to grip the mouse harder just to keep my fingers from slipping. If you are using your mouse over a long period in a day the oils in your fingers make it very slippery on the side. Because of the death grip i had, this really aggravated my carpal tunnel. I never had this problem with my cheap old mouse i was using before. I actually took some ugly masking tape and taped it all on the sides of the mouse to give it matte-like absorbent texture with some grip. Not happy about that, but the grip is 100% better once i had done that!

Second, I have my computer in my room where i sleep and i don't know about you but i don't want this bright blue glowing object lighting up my room in the middle of the night. The bad part is that it glows off and on and is not a steady light. I might as well have a neon bar sign outside my window. I could not find anywhere to turn this glowing thing off. I have to put a shirt over my mouse every night.

Third, This goes with the second one in that i could not find much support on this thing. I could not find a contact form for general questions on razer's website. I found a trouble shooting page, but if my problem is not listed, i'm screwed because there is no form on there to ask a general question. Maybe there is a way to shut off the glow, I don't know i could not find a place to ask that question.

Finally, i first installed this thing without the CD and just plugged the usb into the port and allowed windows to auto-install for me. It worked fine with no problems. Later on, when i tried finding a way to stop the glowing effect, i decided to install the actual software from razer to see the settings. Once i installed the software, the mouse movement became choppy. i couldn't find a way to smooth this out in the software, so i had to do a windows restore to the point before i installed razer's software.
