Product Description
You asked for STRONGER WiFi and Extended Range and here it is. We have combined this high power Wi-Fi adapters with a powerful +9 dBi 15'' 2.4GHz Hi-Gain folding antenna. Estimated range is (depending on environment) 1.2 mile (2km) Most common Wi-Fi devices (D-Link, Linksys, and Netgear) have power ratings of less than 50mW (milliwatts.) Our new Wi-Fi device is 10x as strong (1000 mW.) This adapter is what the WiFi world has been waiting for. It is compatible with almost all laptops and desktop, PCs and Macs. This kit also includes two antennas- one mini 5 dBi gain travel antenna, and one high gain 9 dBi antenna, as pictured. It is perfect to travel with and weighing less than 2 ounces and measuring 3.5 x 2.5 inches in size (8.5 x 6.3cm) This has a stunning 1000mw output power. So if you are looking for a device to connect to an outdoor 2.4 GHz antenna, such as on a boat or an RV, this is a perfect solution. Because this is a USB adapter, it works on any computer that has a USB port.this also works with Windows Vista, Linux (kernel 2.6.6 and later) and Macintosh (OS version 10.4). And the drivers for ALL of these operating systems are included on CD-ROM - Wi-Fi Certified - Includes 2 external antennas- a 5 dBi mini antenna, and an 9 dBi antenna as pictured - Diagnostic LED indicator - Complies with 802.11g standard for 2.4Ghz Wireless LAN - Contains RP-SMA external antenna jack (one external antenna is included!) - Enterprise-class 64/128 WEP encryption, WPA, WPA-PSK, WPA2, 802.1X support - 54 mbps High-Speed Transfer Rate for 802.11g - High powered adapter- 1000mw output power - USB 2.0 and 1.1 compliant

4 out of 5 stars Alfa 1000mW b/g   September 5, 2010
J. Thompson (Trinidad)
I desperately needed a WiFi connector for desktop computers that I would work on approximately 60ft away from my router, but going through hard stone walls which seriously kill the signal. After some research Alfa was definitely the way to go! I chose to take the 9dbi antenna instead of the 5 JUST to make sure. This appears to be kind of an overkill but worth it as I get a full 5 bars instead of the usual 0-2.
I would really have liked to take the 2000b/g/n version but the reviews were a tad bit sketchy and considering that I'm purchasing internationally returning is usually not worth it.

Great Product but I would consider holding out if you can until they improve the N version. If I could have I would have.

3 out of 5 stars Really works! Well, sort of works.   September 4, 2010
Joseph V. D'anna (Winter Park, FL. United States)
I tried other products and this is the only one that really worked. The signal went from one bar to four. Internet is fast now and I can even play games online. Watch the video for Windows 7 installation of the driver.
UPDATE: Same problem as the last reviewer. It stops working. If you move it, it stops working; very touchy little thing. Then, I have to unplug it and plug it back in a few times. The larger antenna does nothing. Just use a small one.

2 out of 5 stars Great. WHEN it works.   September 1, 2010
J.P.G. (Wisconsin)
PROS: Picked up signals I couldn't with normal wi-fi, once connected was stable.

CONS: Never reliable when it came to actually getting it "on" would have to constantly plug and unplug it to get it to work... Drivers were all up to date, I am using Windows 7 Pro, shouldn't have been any problems. Like I said it was an issue with the device not even powering on, after multiple attempts at plugging and unplugging it would finally "catch" and the green light on the device would start working.

OTHER: Would not purchase again even in a pinch, I have used several usb wi-fi dongles and never had any issues with the device not working only sometimes.... I sent this product back and got a refund.

2 out of 5 stars I get better performance from a $10 model.   August 30, 2010
Roger H. Smith (Apache Junction, AZ. USA)
Unit seldom hooks-up above 11Mbs. even when signal strength is excellent. It also disconnects frequently even when only a few feet away from the access point. I have a $10 model with no external antenna that works better than this. At first I thought these problems were due to excessive range until I recently tried using it with an access point just a room away. I wish I had returned it right off the bat. BIG disappointment!! :(

2 out of 5 stars Mac Support Very, Very Limited   August 29, 2010
Douglas T. Tews (Isle of Wight)
I originally used this with a G4 Powerbook running Leopard, OS 10.5. Generally with open networks it worked spectacularly well pulling in far more networks than the built in Airport could even see. However, any kind of encryption was hit and miss. Sometimes it would work, other times not.

I just got a new Core i7 MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard, OS 10.6. So far, I can't get it to work at all. The device does pick up lot of networks and Network Preferences shows it to be connected. However, it refuses to speak with the internet. I can't get it work even with open networks.

Driver support seems pretty poor, with the latest Mac drivers nearly 2 years old. This unit is best avoided by Mac users. I'm looking into QuickerTek which has high power USB units, that from what I understand have better Mac support, though they are very, very expensive in comparison to the Alfa.
